As soon as I finished this book, I went out and got the first one that I missed. A highly enjoyable series filled with plenty of secret agent-y shenanigans, the second book the Clockwork Agents series didn't disappoint. While steampunk can be rather hit-or-miss with me, this one worked because of the characters, the whip-smart dialogue and the fantastic tension between the characters. Super-spy Claire's hell-bent on vengeance against the man who she believes murdered her brother when she's injured and caught by her rivals. Untrusting of women (poor boy, he's been burned badly), Alistair and rival spy must team up with Claire to find a rogue agent. There's plenty of tension and bad-assery (you know I like that!) on both sides until they finally learn to function together and, of course, fall in love (hey, it is a romance, after all). A great twist near the end kept me flipping the pages.

Though I thought the first book was better, I really liked throwbacks book in the series.It lacked the same level of suspense, and the romance fell a little flat for me. Even so, I wanted to know what happens next. Frankly one of the best character s in the book was the mother.
If you are into the steampunk books this is a must read. But you need to read Heart of Brass first
I really like this author and her books. I really got into this story and I will be lookig for the next in the series!
Another well written, action packed adventure in this series. Kate Cross just keeps getting better with each book. Highly recommended for anyone who loves a bit of Steampunk, Airships, and adventure.
I enjoyed the book and would and have recommended it to friends. It was given four stars instead of five because it has too much sex for the younger person to read. However at 62 it was fine with me and I am still able to remember love/ sex like this.
Not as good as the first two. Felt forced and in a hurry. Plot stretched very thin in many places. Set up the characters for number 4 in the series, but will wait to see reviews before buying.
Deserves no stars! I like self published authors and can tolerate a lot but this was just unreadable. For this writer thinks that if she can say it in two words, 10 would be even better. Or 20. This is a lesson on what over-written and purple prose mean. She explains things that don't need explaining. She spent a long paragraph describing an elevator ride during which nothing happens. We know how elevators work, OK? She describes a mild disagreement between a happily marrying couple (that they immediately resolve) as "worthy of a Shakespearean tragedy. " Don't bother.
