I find it hard to set Michelle Sagara as a five star when she really deserves to be in the realm above a five star rating system. I own all of her books and have never been happy setting them down in the middle of a story to take a break. As a result there have been many overnight reading sessions or simply falling asleep while reading. As I am not a person who reads and drops a good book, I have continually returned to her books to read over and over again. I also love the fact that she does not produce a multitude of short books but provides a longer and more complete portion of the saga in one book. It’s extremely hard to find such an interesting and exciting author who not only writes intelligently but also proves top rated plots, characters and excitement in her stories.Tags : Cast in Chaos (Chronicles of Elantra, Book 6) [Michelle Sagara] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Cast in Chaos Chronicles of Elantra Book 6 Michelle Sagara 9780373803194 Books Reviews
I love this series. Sagara does a beautiful job of creating a world that's very different from our own, but so real you can immerse yourself in it. If you read the whole series straight through, you won't just feel like an explorer in a new land, you'll feel yourself going native. Then when you come up for air, the real world will have a slightly foreign feel to it.
Sagara creates believable, engaging characters, in a world that she describes richly enough to make it feel real, without getting bogged down in tedious detail. The adventures are exciting, the relationships complex, the plots interesting. One of the difficulties in writing fantasy is being able to leave things open enough for the reader's imagination to come into play, without making things too confusing or frustratingly unexplained. Sagara maintains the balance superbly.
If you like fantasy, and you're looking for a series to totally immerse yourself in, give the "Cast In" books a try.
I grab each Elantra book as it is released and devour it... which usually means I skip sleep and errands until I'm done. It's one of my very favorite series and has been since the first book came out. I've reread books 1-5 numerous times.
But I was a little disappointed with Cast in Chaos. I think it's the weakest book in the series to date. Instead of reading every word, I ended up skimming a lot and flipping pages until I got to a part I liked better. I didn't get pulled into the story as strongly as I usually do. I got bored with parts. I didn't care as much about what was going on. I freely admit that I may have missed some things with my page-flipping, but this is the first book of the series where I've even wanted to hurry through the pages, and I feel that says something about this particular book. I mostly saw it as a build-up book... it provides lead-up information to what I think will become crucial in the books to come and I can see the next book being fun as it deals with the repercussions of the actions in this one.
It's still a good read. The characters I love are all there, and I love discovering each new nugget of information about their intertwined histories. I love the day-to-day irritations and interactions. I will certainly reread it and in no way will I hesitate to buy the next book. As a series, I give the Chronicles of Elantra five stars without question.
This is an excellent extension of the story arc begun in the first book! The continuing development of the main character remains satisfying, but delightfully, isn't so straightforward that the reader can easily forecast the closing of this episode, leaving a sense of anticipation for the next event. It is also continues to be a very good, if unusual, concatenation of police-flavored activities with the fantasy genre, which, in this series, works neatly to guide the direction of the underlying story. In my opinion, the reader grows to thoroughly enjoy the interpersonal relationships of the heroine to the other major characters almost as much as to relish each new twist of the overall story line, since each new episode appears to follow naturally from the prior ones - no false steps here!.
I absolutely love these books! This is the only series besides Robert Jordan's Wheel Of Time series that I've followed through to the end (I'm still waiting for the last book to arrive to actually finish this series). Every time I read another of these books, I'm shocked and amazed. Michelle Sagara manages to keep the characters the same at the core, while allowing them to grow, and mature as it goes on. Most impressive to me, she's avoided the serious pitfall of turning Kaylin into a 'I am woman, hear me roar!' type character.
Now yes... Every time I start these books, I'll admit I cringe a little about the dates. Basically, we're asked to believe that every couple of weeks, yet ANOTHER world-ending disaster is occurring, and Kaylin is STILL the only one who can stop it. But even with that, after a few chapters in, I could care less. I get totally lost in the story.
This one was a bit harder to follow than some of the others, I will say that. There's a lot more meat to this one, and some of it is just too much. But it was still an excellent read. Michelle Sagara continues to impress me. Can't wait for the next one to arrive!
Michelle Sagara is an excellent writer and story-teller; not the same thing. She is also, an intelligent writer; her books are not easy reads, but oh so rewarding.
The characters grow. New characters and interactions develop. The plots are intricate and long-reaching. There is as well a dry irreverent sense of humor that will occasionally make you laugh out loud.
You cannot just buy the latest book in the series and get full satisfaction out of it, but you would still get an amazingly well-told story to enjoy.
Get them, read them.
I find it hard to set Michelle Sagara as a five star when she really deserves to be in the realm above a five star rating system.
